Common Questions
What is the difference between an EIA and an Environmental Audit?
An EIA is done BEFORE a project starts to predict impacts. An Environmental Audit is done annually AFTER the project is operational to check compliance.
How much does an EIA cost?
Costs vary based on project scale (0.1% of project cost is payable to NEMA as processing fee) and the complexity of the study required.
Why do I need a NEMA license?
It is a legal requirement under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) 1999. Operating without one attracts heavy fines and project stoppage.
What is Public Participation?
It involves consulting people likely to be affected by the project. NEMA requires proof of this consultation (minutes, questionnaires) for approval.
